Ashmore Colombia Announces the Integration of Lycée Français de Medellín into the Legacy Schools Platform
Ashmore Adean Fund III and Fondo Ashmore Andino III announces the acquisition of 100% of Lycée Français de Medellín, including the underlying real estate, and its subsequent integration into Legacy Schools, Ashmore’s growing K-12 education platform in Colombia.
Located in Medellín, Colombia’s second largest metropolitan area, Lycée Français de Medellín benefits from modern, purpose-built infrastructure with significant expansion capacity. The School currently serves more than 600 students and is expected to graduate its first full cohort in the coming years.
Lycée Français de Medellín is a private K-12 institution recognised for its trilingual education model (Spanish, French, and English), strong academic standards, and its accredited membership in the Agence pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Étranger (AEFE), the global network of French international schools overseen by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. The School is the only institution in its region offering dual certification, granting both the Colombian high school diploma and the French Baccalaureate, a globally recognised credential that facilitates access to leading universities worldwide.
The acquisition represents a significant milestone in the expansion of Legacy Schools, a platform designed to bring together high-quality educational institutions while preserving their academic identity, values, and community roots. Through this platform, Ashmore seeks to support long-term institutional development, enhance operational and academic capabilities, and promote sustainable social impact through education, while generating attractive risk-adjusted returns for its investors.
Juan Pablo Fonseca, Chief Executive Officer of Ashmore Colombia, said:
“We are pleased to welcome Lycée Français de Medellín into the Legacy Schools platform. This acquisition marks an important milestone in the continued expansion of our education platform in Colombia, and reflects our conviction in the long-term opportunity to support high-quality institutions that combine strong academic outcomes with enduring community value.
“Our focus is on supporting the School’s next phase of growth while preserving its distinctive identity, values, and pedagogical model. Through the Legacy Schools platform, we aim to enhance institutional capabilities, share best practices, and ensure the School continues to deliver outstanding educational outcomes for students over the long term.”

About Lycée Français de Medellín
Founded in 2015 by Medellín-based entrepreneurs, Lycée Français de Medellín was established as a project combining the French educational tradition with an international and multicultural vision. As an active member of the AEFE network, the School is authorised to deliver the French Baccalaureate curriculum from early education through high school, complemented by a broad academic, cultural, and extracurricular offering.
The decision to transfer ownership reflects a strategic step to integrate the School into a broader educational network, enabling it to benefit from shared best practices, institutional support, and long-term investment, while preserving its distinctive pedagogical model, identity, and values.
