Ashmore Colombia awarded with the “Most Successful Private Equity Transaction of the Year” by ColCapital
Bogotá, Colombia, 14 November 2023
Ashmore Group plc is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, Ashmore Management Company Colombia (“Ashmore Colombia”), was awarded the Most Successful Private Equity Transaction of the Year by ColCapital, the Colombian Private Equity & Venture Capital Funds Association, for its recent divestment from Redcol Holding S.A.S. (“Redcol”).
Ashmore Colombia consolidated its stake in Redcol via its first two private equity funds, Fondo de Infraestructura Colombia Ashmore I - FCP and Fondo Ashmore Andino II -FCP, and Ashmore Andean Fund II, LP, (the “Funds”), which, through a series of investments and acquisitions, established a network of nine operative schools in Colombia. In September 2022, Ashmore Colombia executed a successful divestment of the company, selling the Funds’ equity stake to Cognita Schools, a global private schools group that owns and operates schools throughout the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Vietnam, Brazil, India and Chile.
At the time of the divestment, the Redcol network educated more than 7,300 students in its 12 campuses spread across eight cities, it provided international certificates such as the International Baccalaureate and Cognia accreditation, and it operated the school with the highest SABER1 scores in the country.
